HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – *Update: Both events that were originally May 9 have been postponed due to weather*
Waterman Elementary School’s May Day celebration will be Friday, May 10 at 1:15 pm. This annual event dates WAY back and is a beloved tradition in the Waterman community. It is held outdoors in the grassy area behind the school.
It will begin with 4th graders presenting the flags and then the 5th graders will be introduced by name as they proceed down the hill. Once they are all introduced, they will wrap the May Pole and then perform their 5th grade dance. Each grade will then take a turn doing their dance front and center as the previous grades step back. The event will last about an hour.
On Tuesday May 21 from 6:30-7:30pm Keister Elementary school will be celebrating the opening of Keister’s Mindfulness Meadow with an outdoor learning family engagement evening.
They will be sending families off with saplings thanks to the Department of Forestry and Public Works, two different bingo boards to encourage families to take advantage of free outdoor learning activities over the summer, and goodie bags. They will also be showcasing all of the art collaborations between Keister and JMU SMAD from this semester (that were created for this space).
