WINCHESTER, Va. (BC Athletics) – The Bridgewater College women’s lacrosse season came to an end in the ODAC Tournament quarterfinals against No. 22 and third-seeded Shenandoah, 23-9, at Aikens Stadium on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Bridgewater jumped out in the opening minutes of the game as Lauren Roberts put the Eagles in front, 1-0, at the 13:52 mark of the first quarter. The Hornets immediately responded with a goal less than a minute later to spawn a 6-0 scoring run that went over the next 11 minutes. Kaity Petersheim scored on a free position attempt to end the stretch before Roberts netted her second with 11 seconds left as the Eagles trailed 6-3 after 15 minutes.
• Shenandoah scored just 30 seconds into the second and went up 8-3 after a goal at the 13:57 mark. Paige Mayers struck for her first of the day to cut the lead down to 8-4 with 13:25 showing on the clock. Another goal from the home side put SU up by five, but Petersheim scored with under 10 minutes left in the half to keep BC within four. The Hornets scored two in a row to assume an 11-5 lead with six minutes in the half. Jenna Entsminger added a score to her stat line before SU struck again with four minutes in the second before Mayers added another tally to set the halftime score at 12-7 in favor of the nationally ranked Hornets.
• The Eagles again jumped out with the first goal of the half as Petersheim completed her hat trick to keep BC within four goals at 12-8. The Hornets went on a 4-0 scoring run beginning with 10 minutes to go in the third before Entsminger scored her second of the game to stop the run and make the game 16-9. Three more goals for the home side set the Hornets in front 19-9 as the game went to the final 15 minutes. Shenandoah kept the Eagles off the scoresheet in the fourth and added four more in the final period as the third-seeded Hornets went on to win, 23-9.

GAME STATS
• Petersheim led the way for the Eagles with three goals.
• Roberts, Mayers and Entsminger rounded out the scoring all with two scores apiece.
• Aunnie Hacker was credited with the lone assist in the loss.
• Roberst paced players with four draw controls with Mayers and Entsminger also hauling down one each.
• Lindsay Davis scooped up two ground balls while Petersheim, Julia Mohler, Olivia Lawrence, Rachael Robinson and Maisen Jenkins all had one.
• Petersheim and Mohler each caused one turnover each.
• Robnison started between the pipes and made two saves in 27 total minutes, while Jenkins played the remaining 33 minutes and stopped 11 shots in the loss.
• Shenandoah out shot Bridgewater 41-14 and had a 15-7 edge in ground balls.

The Eagles finish the 2024 season with a 9-9 record after advancing to the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament for a second straight season.
