HARRISONBURG VA (Rocktown Now) – A Rockingham County man was arrested last week after allegedly attempting to cash several stolen checks.

According to the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office, William Austin Fauber of Mount Crawford was arrested June 24, 2026, during a traffic stop conducted at the intersection of China Clay Road and Howardsville Turnpike in Stuarts Draft.

Harrisonburg Police Spokesperson Juliana McGrath-Myers says, back in April, the 31-year-old Fauber allegedly stole checks from his former girlfriend, signed them with her signature, and attempted to cash checks at a local business using a fake name.

Fauber was charged with 16 felony counts including Grand Larceny, Forgery, Uttering, and Identity Theft.

He is scheduled to appear in General District Court today.
