James Madison Men’s Basketball got a boost on Monday night as starting point guard Xavier Brown announced on social media that he will take his name out of the transfer portal and return to JMU for his junior season.
The sophomore from Williamsburg, Virginia, put his name in the portal last week after Mark Byington left the Dukes to become the head coach at Vanderbilt.
Brown played in all 36 games for James Madison this past season and he started 17 of the last 18 games. He averaged 6.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists per game, and he led JMU with 52 steals.
Brown had his best game in the Sun Belt Tournament Championship as he scored a career-high 21 points and added a career-high 10 rebounds in JMU’s victory over Arkansas State.
As of right now, Brown will be the most experienced player on the JMU roster for new head coach Preston Spradlin.
James Madison finished 32-4 this past season, won their first conference tournament title in 11 years and they advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1983.
