Legislation that would lay the groundwork for moving the Washington Wizards and Capitals from downtown D-C into a posh new event district across the state line breezed through its first test on Friday.
Members of the House Appropriations Committee voted 17-3 to advance the bill to the full House, although Democrats on the committee noted their “yes” votes were in the interest of keeping negotiations open.
The plan is calling for a brand-new, two-billion-dollar district in the Potomac Yard section of Alexandria that would include a fresh arena for both sports teams.
The legislation in question would allow the government to issue bonds that would cover one-and-a-half-billion dollars in outstanding cost.
