Virginia senators narrowly passed a bill on Friday that makes medically assisted death one step closer to becoming reality in the commonwealth.
The bill by Chesterfield Democrat Ghazala Hashmi would give terminally ill patients who are expected to have less than six months to live the option to accept medication that will end their lives. It passed 21-19 along party lines.
Barbara Green, who has terminal pancreatic cancer, supports the bill. She told WAVY in Norfolk that it all comes down to peace of mind.
The House of Delegates is considering its own version of a similar bill.
