ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — A massive column of dark smoke could be seen for miles around the scene of this morning’s fire in Rockingham County.
At around 9:20 this morning, Fire Chief Jeremy Holloway said units were dispatched to Weavers Road off Rawley Pike on reports of a burning poultry house used to store vehicles.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the building about 25-percent engulfed in flames. “Access to the building was difficult,” Holloway noted. “Had to get in and actually breach through some walls to get into where we could protect the other portion of the structure. There were several vehicles inside, a lot of fuel, and a heavy fire load so, it made the beginning of it kind of interesting.”
In under forty minutes, Holloway reported that crews had the fire contained and under control but remained on scene to monitor hotspots. No injuries were reported.
The Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire.
