DAYTON, VA (Rocktown Now) — An electrical fire has shuttered a popular general store in Dayton until further notice.

Assistant Fire Marshall Brent Powell reports that a small fire broke out around 4 o’clock last Thursday morning at Krossroads Kountry Store on Ottobine Road after one of the building’s light fixtures malfunctioned.

Thanks to a quick attack by local fire crews, Powell says the flames were quickly extinguished, preventing greater structural damage to the store.

However, the store’s entire inventory was ruined by the heavy amount of smoke generated by the fire.

Despite board-covered windows, Powell says the building is sound, repairable, and should be back in service soon.
