HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Virginia forestry officials are urging residents to plant native trees, and they’ve opened their annual seedling store to make it easier. The Virginia Department of Forestry’s online shop, supplied entirely by its Augusta County nursery, is now taking orders for spring 2027 pickup or delivery. Nearly 70 species of hardwoods, conifers, and shrubs are available, all selected for Virginia’s climate and ecosystems.

The agency says inventory is limited and popular varieties often sell out early, so residents are encouraged to place orders soon. Seedlings purchased this fall will be ready just as spring planting season begins, giving homeowners, farmers, and conservation groups a chance to add long‑lived native trees to their landscapes.

Foresters note that planting native species supports wildlife, improves soil health, and strengthens Virginia’s forests against pests and changing weather. More information—and the full catalog—is available at Virginia Department of Forestry – DOF Seedlings Store.
