HARRISONBURG, Va. (EMU Athletics) – The Royals were back at home on Wednesday, looking to win their third straight for the first time since 2019.

Mission accomplished.

In the 26th minute, Esme Cardoso sent a beautiful crossing pass to a streaking Bridget Hay, who found the back of the net for her ODAC-leading ninth goal of the season. That would be the only offense needed as EMU picked up the 1-0 win over Mary Baldwin.

Records: EMU 4-4-2, 2-0 ODAC | Mary Baldwin 3-4, 0-2 USA South

Highlights
• MBU came out aggressive, pushing forward on EMU’s defense and firing off a trio of shots on goal. But netminder CJ Jefferson came up with three saves, keeping the Fighting Squirrels off the board.
• Cardoso picked up EMU’s first shot on goal in the 19th minute, but it was turned away by the MBU keeper. Less than six minutes later, after a Fighting Squirrel turnover, the Cardoso to Hay connection struck again and put the Royals ahead 1-0. Jefferson added two more saves in the final 10 minutes to keep the shutout intact after the first 45.
• Gabi Dewey came up with a pair of saves for EMU, as she replaced Jefferson to start the second half. MBU’s best chance came in the 71st minute when a high ball got over the EMU defender to a Fighting Squirrel. Her shot got past Dewey, but Reese Lessard was there for the team save to keep Mary Baldwin off the board.
