SALEM, Va. (BC Athletics) – The Bridgewater College women’s soccer team outshot Roanoke 18-8 Wednesday night but finished in a scoreless draw in its ODAC opener.

How It Happened
The Eagles established an early advantage in shots, recording five attempts in the opening 16 minutes. Laura Narby accounted for three of those chances, while Sophia Phillips and Lily Hewatt each added an attempt as BC searched for the opening goal.

Bridgewater continued generating opportunities throughout the first half. Brianna Curro tested Roanoke goalkeeper Grace Suchy in the 28th minute, and Phillips forced another save in the 36th. At the other end, Erinn Lockard denied Kacee Schmidt in the 33rd minute. The Eagles entered halftime with an 11-4 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks, but the match remained scoreless.

BC carried its offensive pressure into the second half, recording the first seven shots after the break. Narby forced a save in the 53rd minute before Curro and Cassandra Villafan challenged Suchy in the 58th and 60th minutes. Another Narby attempt in the 78th minute brought the Eagles’ shot advantage to 18-4, but Suchy again kept Bridgewater off the board.

Roanoke generated its first shot of the second half in the 79th minute, and Lockard stopped Brynn Alvarez in the 81st to preserve the shutout. Bridgewater earned one final corner kick in the 89th minute, but neither side found a breakthrough.

Match Notes
Narby led the Eagles with six shots, including two on goal, while Phillips added four attempts. Lockard recorded two saves in the shutout.
Suchy finished with six saves for Roanoke, including four after halftime. Rebecca Carr led the Maroons with three shots.
Bridgewater more than doubled Roanoke’s shot total, finishing with an 18-8 advantage. The Eagles also held a 6-2 edge in shots on goal and a 9-5 margin in corner kicks.

The Eagles return back to Bridgewater this Saturday, Sept. 26 to continue their ODAC schedule against Randolph-Macon.
