STAUNTON, VA (Rocktown Now) — One person is dead after an officer involved shooting Tuesday night in Staunton.

Staunton Police say the shooting happened at approximately 7:15 PM at Walmart, 1028-C Richmond Avenue.

Police say a male subject was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.

They ask that the public avoid the area at this time.

This is a developing story as Staunton Police sat the investigation will be turned over to the Virginia State Police.
