WAYNESBORO, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Wayne Theatre and Virginia Scenic Railway are bringing the ghost stories, folklore, and darker history of the Shenandoah Valley aboard a moving train this fall with The Last Passenger: Ghost Stories of the Shenandoah Valley, presented Friday, October 30 and Saturday, October 31.

According to Wayne Theatre officials, the immersive theatrical dining experience will depart from the Virginia Scenic Railway station at 415 Bridge Street in Staunton, VA, at 4:00 p.m. each day and will feature professional actors from the Wayne Theatre’s acclaimed ReperTOURy group performing aboard a vintage train as it travels through the Virginia countryside.

Designed specifically for the setting, The Last Passenger draws from true stories, regional folklore, railroad disasters, mysterious deaths, and accounts that have endured through generations. As the train moves through the Shenandoah Valley, the surrounding landscape becomes part of the experience, connecting the performance to the places and history that inspired the stories.

The approximately three-hour event combines live theatrical storytelling, folk music, dinner, and dessert in an intimate setting unlike a traditional stage production. The collaboration brings together two regional cultural organizations to create an experience that blends performing arts, local history, tourism, and storytelling.

The production is part of the Wayne Theatre’s ReperTOURy programming, which brings professional theatrical performances beyond the traditional theatre setting and into communities and locations throughout the region.

The performance includes elements of suspense and supernatural horror. Some stories involve historical deaths, accidents, and other disturbing subject matter. Parental discretion is advised.
