LURAY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Ben Jones, best known as Cooter Davenport in The Dukes of Hazzard, has passed away.

Jones’ wife, Alma Viator, posted on Facebook on Sunday that he suffered a major heart attack at 84.

Her post read “I lost the love of my life today. Ben passed from a massive heart attack. He was home resting in his favorite chair waiting for the Braves to come on and whoop the Yankees. Ben had the most amazing rich full life. He loved and was loved by so many. He will be missed. I loved him so so much.”

Ben Jones opened Cooter’s Place in Luray, almost 10 years ago, in 2017, in honor of his character that he played for 142 episodes from 1979 to 1985.

Jones also served on the Georgia House of Representatives for two terms from 1989 to 1993.
