HARRISONBURG VA: (WSVA) – James Madison University’s president and soon-to-be-former athletic director are showing a unified front as criticism mounts over their decision not to pursue a lawsuit against the N-C-A-A.
A Thanksgiving afternoon statement from James Madison A-D Jeff Bourne said that he and President Jonathan Alger were “completely united” in deciding to stand down from suing the organization over its exclusion of J-M-U football from bowl game eligibility.
He said that the school had determined, along with Attorney General Jason Miyares, that the chances of an immediate injunction being reached were “significantly diminished” after Saturday’s loss to Appalachian State.
Bourne defended President Alger, saying that he has shown a “willingness to fight” for J-M-U student athletes.
Some donors have threatened to pull funding from the school in light of the news.
