HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — 80 Acres Farms, the indoor‑farming company formerly known as Soli Organic and Shenandoah Growers, has notified employees that it will close its Harrisonburg facility on Route 11 later this summer. In a letter to staff, CEO Mike Zelkind said the company intends to cease all operations at the site on July 21.

The announcement marks the end of the fresh herb and salad green operation’s long local presence, which began as Shenandoah Growers, then changed to Soli Organic, and later became 80 Acres Farms. The Harrisonburg operation has been part of the region’s controlled‑environment agriculture sector for decades.

Company officials emphasized that the decision is not related to employee performance. Instead, Zelkind said the move reflects a strategic shift to consolidate production at the company’s facilities in Atlanta and Indianapolis, which are closer to major distribution hubs and better aligned with current operational needs.

Employees were informed of the transition timeline and available support resources. Barring any changes, 80 Acres Farms will close its Rt. 11 Harrisonburg facility by July 21.
