HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — A public meeting for the Gay Street Reconfiguration project, as well as the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) Crosswalks Project, will be held Thursday, June 11, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Lucy F. Simms Continuing Education Center.
According to Public Works officials, attendees will be able to learn more about the proposed roadway and pedestrian safety improvements, review project displays, ask questions of staff members and provide feedback.
An online survey will be available June 11 to 25.
The Gay Street Reconfiguration Project focuses on the segment of Gay Street between Broad Street and Liberty Street. Proposed improvements are intended to improve safety and operations for people driving, biking and walking.
The HSIP Crosswalks Project includes pedestrian safety improvements at six intersections throughout the city. Safety improvements may include high-visibility crosswalk pavement markings, curb extensions, pedestrian signal poles and push buttons, where applicable, and curb ramps with detectable warning surfaces.
“We are excited to share these projects with the community and gather feedback,” Harrisonburg Public Works Director Tom Hartman said. “These improvements are focused on making our transportation network safer and more accessible for everyone who walks, bikes, rolls or drives in Harrisonburg.”
