UPDATE: The U-S Geological Survey has confirmed that it was a minor earthquake that caused loud, explosion-like sounds Sunday evening in southern Augusta County.

The agency says that the quake measured 2-point-2 on the Richter scale. The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office said no one was hurt and no property was damaged as a result of the quake.

STUARTS DRAFT, Va. — Folks in Southern Augusta County may have felt a little bit of a shake late last evening.

It is not known yet if it was an earthquake, but according to the website, volcanodiscovery.com, a seismic-like event occurred shortly before 6:30 about seven miles south of Staunton.

The magnitude was unknown.
