A mixed bag when it comes to Virginia’s employment numbers.

The Virginia Employment Commission says the number of initial jobless claims decreased in the latest filing week to 2,118 and remained at typical pre-Pandemic levels.

For the filing week ending September 9th, the 2,118 new jobless claims represented a decrease of 450 from the previous week…eighth best drop in the country.

That good news was tempered a bit by continued unemployment claims in the Commonwealth, which were down slightly from the previous week, but are up more than 26% compared to the same week last year.
