ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va – Virginia State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash involving a state trooper Tuesday night in Rockingham County.
Sergeant Brent Coffey said the crash happened just after 7-30 along Interstate 81 southbound near the New Market exit at mile marker 262.
A Virginia State Police trooper was observing traffic while being positioned in a crossover on I-81 when a southbound 2011 Honda Pilot lost control and collided with the trooper’s patrol vehicle. The impact caused both vehicles to overturn.
According to Coffey, the trooper was taken to U-V-A Medical Center with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Honda, 77-year-old Alice Feret of Blacksburg, was hospitalized as well with minor injuries. She was charged with reckless driving.
