How It Happened
• Both teams came ready, but nerves first had to be settled in the face of high intensity. Back-and-forth points continued throughout the set. The Generals took the lead with a fair momentum shift for an 11-8 edge. The Eagles came back with some aggression cutting the deficit to one at 17-16 with a Faith DePew smackdown. Agnes Alford also landed a piece of one, but WLU took the opening set, 25-22.
• The Eagles came back in the second set with focused and strategic play. BCE went on an enormous eight-point scoring run to put them at 13-4. A short burst soon followed as DePew put together a three-point run. DePew then ran the rest of the set the way the Eagles wanted, spiking the final kill for the second set, 25-19.
• In the third set, the Crimson & Gold battled, but WLU had an answer defensively and put stops to long offensive rallies. The Generals jumped out to a four-point run to help establish a better handle on the lead. WLU took the third set, 25-16.
• Little breathing room came for the Eagles as the Generals came out ready to pounce in the fourth set. A five-point scoring burst helped put WLU at an early advantage. Another four-point run came soon after setting the score at 10-3. The Eagles put in hard effort to work in a five-point run to keep them within reach 18-12. Alford and DePew joined in to lace a few additional kills set up by Lindsay Kelley, but in the end, WLU carried on securing the final set, 25-17.
