ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — A faulty electrical box may have started a residential fire Thursday morning in Rockingham County.
At around 7:10, Fire Chief Jeremy Holloway says units were dispatched to 80 Sharp Hill Lane in Hinton where firefighters discovered smoke coming from a single-story house.
“They went in and did a search and found that we had a basement fire,” Holloway said. “There was some fire damage to the panel box in the basement and some wiring, and it charred parts of the basement. We had smoke throughout the residence.”
The flames were reportedly contained within twenty minutes, and no one was injured in the incident.
Holloway says an unknown electrical component in the basement’s panel box likely caused the fire that resulted in an estimated 10 to 15-thousand dollars’ worth of smoke and electrical damage to the home.
The residents were not permanently displaced.
