GREENVILLE, VA (Rocktown Now) – Augusta County’s Board of Zoning Appeals held a public hearing Thursday afternoon at the Government Center in Verona to consider a special use permit proposal to build a RaceTrac Travel Plaza and Truck Stop in the Greenville area.

Residents lined up to question the safety and necessity of the project, as there are 5 similar gas station franchises currently surrounding the intersection of Routes 340 and 11.

After 90 minutes of discussion, Board Chair George Coyner called a final hand vote that unanimously denied RaceTrac’s request to expand on 12 acres along the busy roadway.
