HARRISONBURG, Va – Harrisonburg City Council gave its final blessing Tuesday night for a plan to install speed monitoring cameras in construction and school zones across the city.

One of the first cameras will be placed at the construction site on East Market Street, where major improvements are in the works near the entrance and exit ramps to Interstate 81.

Harrisonburg Public Works director Tom Hartman said in a meeting last month that the speed limit is 25 miles per hour in that area for a reason.

The cameras can capture the license plate of a speeding vehicle, and its owner could receive a citation.
