HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) – Residents were evacuated from a Harrisonburg assisted living facility Friday morning after smoke in the building triggered an automatic fire alarm.
City Fire Chief Matt Tobia reported that units arrived at Brookdale Senior Living on Deyerle Avenue around 8am today to discover light smoke present in the lobby.
“Out of an abundance of caution, crews upgraded the assignment to a reported Structure Fire, and then began an orderly evacuation of the residents,” Tobia said. “Personnel were able to quickly identify and isolate an H-VAC unit that had been malfunctioning.”
Fortunately, the Fire Chief said no active fire was found, and no damage to the structure was detected.
Units remained on scene for about an hour, working with staff to quickly reoccupy the unaffected areas of the building.
No injuries resulted from the incident.
