HARRISONBURG, Va. – It’s a new era for Rockingham County Public Schools.
During a special meeting this afternoon, the Rockingham County School Board named Dr. Larry Shifflett as the new superintendent of schools.
He replaces the retiring Dr. Oskar Scheikl, who is stepping down at the end of the school year.
Moments after his introduction at Massanutten Technical Center, Shifflett said his top priority is making sure every student attends a safe school where they can receive a high-quality education that is “by design, not by chance.”
Shifflett is a native of Rockingham County and a 1990 graduate of Spotswood High School.
He had been the Rockingham County Assistant Superintendent of Innovation and Learning for the past 9 years.
