HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — The second annual “Valley Cares for Kids Radiothon” raised just over $25,000 as the 12-hour event ended.
According to Erin Chandler with UVA Health Children’s Hospital, the fundraiser surpassed the mark in the final hour, raising $25,632.
100 percent of the proceeds will go to support programs not billed at the hospital, such as support for parents with food and housing during their child’s stay at the hospital and travel expenses for treatments. The money also helps fund the purchase of much needed equipment.
Chandler said 122 gifts by text, phone, and websites were received.
This is the second Radiothon held by the Harrisonburg Media Group and promoted over its 8 stations.
Support was also given by many local businesses including Dairy Queen.
