INDIANAPOLIS –James Madison has earned the No. 7 overall seed into the 2023 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship, as the Dukes will host Army West Point in Friday’s first round.

Joining JMU and Army West Point in the opening rounds in Harrisonburg are Maryland and Drexel.

The Dukes will take on the Black Knights at Sentara Park at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 12. The second first-round bout featuring the Terrapins and Dragons will follow at 5 p.m.

Friday will mark JMU’s first NCAA tournament home game since the 2018 quarterfinal round.

First-round winners will advance to the NCAA second round on Sunday, May 14, which is set for a 1 p.m. start. All three games will be streamed live on ESPN+.

The Dukes earned their eighth consecutive bid into the NCAA Championship following a 17-2 regular-season record, which included a program-record 17-game winning streak and an American Athletic Conference regular-season championship.

JMU’s 17 victories are already the most since the 2018 season. The Dukes secured regular-season victories over five selections in this year’s tournament – No. 6 Florida, Maryland, Virginia, Johns Hopkins and Richmond.

The Dukes have made every NCAA tournament since 2015, holding a 7-6 record in tournament games in that span and winning the 2018 national championship. JMU is 14-17 all-time in NCAA postseason games.
