CHARLOTESVILLE, Va.- James Madison softball met up with in-state opponent Virginia, on Tuesday evening where it fell short of a victory 10-2 in six innings of action.

The Dukes drop to 23-14 (8-7 Sun Belt) while UVA improves to 29-15 (8-10 ACC).

Freshman Kylah Berry tossed four innings in the circle and tallied five strikeouts, yielding two walks, and allowing three hits.

Freshman KK Mathis had a stellar night at the plate noting two hits with a double, one scored run, and one RBI. Junior Kylee Gleason also recorded two hits and one RBI.

Graduate student Avery Pinder, sophomore Abbie Campbell, and freshman Bella Henzler each added a hit.

How It Happened
• In the first inning, the Cavaliers plated its first of five runs from an RBI single to left field by Katie Goldberg, a three-run home run from Abby Weaver, and an RBI single by Lauren VanAsshce.

• Tori Gilbert added to the ‘Hoos scoring with a two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning.

• Gleason doubled to right field and scored Mathis for the Dukes’ first run in the top of the fifth inning.

• Mathis reached on a fielder’s choice in the top of the sixth to push sophomore Jasmine Hall across home plate for the Dukes’ final run.

• UVA pushed another run home from a single that resulted from a JMU fielding error.

• The Cavaliers added their final run from a fielding error.
