HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — A former Nexus executive, Richard Moore of Fishersville, was scheduled to receive his sentence in U.S. District Court this morning.
The 47-year-old Moore faces up to 10 years in prison and a $500,000 fine after pleading guilty in January of defrauding the IRS of over $3 million.
Moore checked himself into a mental facility Friday morning after an attempted suicide and overdose on Xanax.
Moore testified in front of the District Court today that he has not had thoughts of suicide since being put on anti-depressant medications.
He said in his testament to the court, “I just need more help to get there.” Then proceeded to list what the doctors at the facility had diagnosed him with, which were Depression, Mania, Anxiety, PTSD, and bipolar disorder.
The United States stated their concerns over past patterns regarding lack of communication instances with the defendant.
The judge then came to the decision of a continuance following a mental competency evaluation which ties into the defendant’s condition of release.
Weekly updates on Moore’s progression in the facility will be given to the Court.
