BRIDGEWATER, Va. — The Bridgewater College softball team picked up a pair of wins on Senior Day, sweeping Averett in an ODAC doubleheader.

GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Bridgewater started the day off hot as Torrie Shifflett opened the bottom half of the inning with a double to left field. Sarah Wimer brought home Shifflett on a double to center. Hannah Mahan closed the inning out with an RBI single, bringing Wimer home in the process.
• The Cougars responded swiftly in the top of the second as Karsin Lee led off with a triple to deep left field putting herself in scoring position. Lee then scored on a Mackenzie Luckenbaugh sacrifice fly to left field to bring the Cougars to within one.
• In the top of the fourth, Kailey Gates evened the score with an RBI single bringing Luckenbaugh home. Taylor Sullivan walked in the following at bat allowing Angela Rodriguez to cross the plate and putting the Cougars up 3-2.
• The Eagles evened it back up in the bottom of the fifth as Morgan Lucas slapped a double to left center bringing Wimer across the plate. McKenna Mueller sent a double to left center in the following at bat, bringing home Peyton Gregory who pinch ran for Wimer putting the Eagles back up 4-3.
• The final two runs for the Eagles were scored in the bottom of the sixth, kicked off by a Shifflett double to left center bringing Cheyenne Barlow across the plate who pinch ran for Jordan Wise. Shifflett then scored unearned on an error by the centerfielder during Wimer’s at bat increasing the Eagles lead to 6-3.
• The Eagles retired the Cougars next three batters in order to end the game in the top of the seventh.
GAME STATS
• Brantley Swift tossed 3.2 innings as she started in the circle but came away with a no decision. Samantha Martin picked up the win after finishing out the last 3.1 innings of the game as she shut out the Cougars and struck out two batters..
• Six different Eagles recorded hits in game one.
• Wimer, Lucas, Mueller, and Mahan registered RBIs in the first game of the afternoon.
• Wise went 2-for-3 at the plate in the first half of the doubleheader.
GAME 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Game two was a low scoring affair, starting with Mahan scoring for the Eagles on a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the second where the catcher went to first instead of tagging her out at the plate.
• The Cougars evened the score in the top of the fourth as Olivia Jones knocked a single to right center bringing Lee across the plate.
• Bridgewater responded in the bottom of the fifth as Brooklynn Fridley slapped a double to left center and then advanced to third on a throwing error allowing Sarah Kate Tozier to cross the plate in the process. Fridley then scored the Eagles final run of the day, crossing the plate unearned on a Wimer single to right center.
• The Eagles again retired the Cougars next three batters in order to end the game seventh.
GAME STATS
• Mackenzie Cauthorn pitched a complete game for the Eagles, registering her fifth win of the season. She allowed only five hits and registered seven punchouts in the game.
• Six Eagles recorded hits.
• Averi Phillips, Mahan and Tozier recorded stolen bases for the Eagles.
