HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Royals baseball team squared off with #14 Christopher Newport on Tuesday, part of a home and home with the Captains.

CNU picked up 22 hits, including four homeruns, en route to a 28-4 win over EMU

Highlights
• The Captains’ leadoff hitter doubled to start the game and Sturgeon issued a walk to the second hitter. But he settled down and picked up two big strikeouts and a foul out to keep CNU off the board in the first. Logan Mason singled for the Royals in the first and advanced to second on an error. Aidan Miller walked, putting runners on first and second, but the Captains starter picked up a pair of Ks and a groundout to keep things scoreless.

• CNU broke the game open in the second, scoring 10 runs, including a grand slam. By the time Jack Dooley had picked up the final out, Christopher Newport was ahead 11-0. The Royals got one back in the second when Logan Jones and Forest Shuey both singled and Jones scored on Alex Gulisano’s RBI single.

• Christopher Newport added five in the third, one in the fifth and 11 in the sixth to get their final run total. In the sixth, Jones picked up his second hit of the day, driving in Alec Riles with an RBI single. Then, in the seventh, Dylan Cassell was hit by a pitch to lead off and moved to second on Trevor Selph’s base hit. Dylan Hall picked up a hit to load the bases and Aidan Miller drove in Cassell with an RBI fielder’s choice. Selph scored next on a wild pitch before a pair of strikeouts ended the game.
