Drivers in the commonwealth will notice a change on the top of state police cruisers – which is exactly what they want.
Virginia State Police have announced they’re adding red lights to all trooper vehicles. In partnership with state police, researchers at Virginia Tech found that drivers can see the mixture of red and blue lights up to three seconds sooner than the blue lights alone.
They say adding the red lights will save lives and prevent injuries by giving drivers more time to obey Virginia’s Move Over law.
The change will happen gradually as older vehicles are replaced with newer models.
