HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Royals women’s lacrosse team competed in a non-conference matchup against the Phoenix of Wilson College on Wednesday.
EMU would come up short as Wilson used a 12-3 first half to take control of the game. The Phoenix came out with the victory, winning 19-7.

Highlights
• The Royals would strike first in this matchup as Alex Palizzi scored an unassisted goal just 21 seconds into the game. The score would be 1-0 in favor of EMU.
• Wilson College would then go on to score four straight goals of the game, leading 4-1 at the 5 minute mark in the first quarter. Amber Bonds responded, scoring the second goal for EMU with 3 minutes left in the quarter and pulling EMU within two. The Phoenix would add two more and take a 6-2 lead after one.
• Wilson would score the first four goals of the second quarter, moving ahead 10-2. The Royals added to their side of the scoreboard off a goal from Grace Hughes, assisted by Autumn Hornbeck with 4 minutes left in the half. The Phoenix would take a 12-3 lead to the break.
• At the start of the third quarter, Bonds scored her second goal of the game to answer Wilson’s goal. Wilson would close out the quarter leading 16-4 as they scored three straight goals.
• The final quarter of the matchup saw three goals from three different EMU players. At the 13-minute mark Courtney Crawford scored, bringing the score to 16-5. Bonds reached her third goal of the game scoring at the 11-minute mark. The last Royals goal was scored by Palizzi with an assist from Crawford.
