STAUNTON, Va. – The Bridgewater College softball team swept Mary Baldwin in a road doubleheader to move its win streak to five games after a 7-2 win in game one and an 8-3 victory in the night cap on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
• Bridgewater got the day started in the second inning on a McKenna Mueller single to centerfield. Andrea Savage followed that base hit with a double, bringing home Morgan Lucas who reached base via walk. Jordan Wise immediately brought home Mueller and Savage with a double of her own, bringing the score to 3-0 Eagles in the second.

• The Fighting Squirrels immediately responded in the bottom of the second with Trinity Thomas hitting an RBI single to bring in Allison Crum.

• The game went scoreless until the top of the fourth when Lucas cranked a solo home run to deep center putting the Eagles up 4-1. Samantha Martin handled business in the bottom of the fourth recording a pair of strikeouts and a groundout for a quick one-two-three inning.

• The Eagles scoring onslaught continued in the top of the fifth as Brooklyn Fridley launched a home run to straight away centerfield bringing in Torrie Shifflett in the process and extending the lead to 6-1.

• Mary Baldwin scored its final run of the day as Leanna Rankin drove in Paige Fix on an RBI single. The Eagles final run of the contest came on a wild pitch as Mueller advanced from third to extend the lead to 7-2.

• Brantley Swift came in to close the game out in the circle allowing only one hit in two innings.

GAME STATS
• Lucas went 1-for-2 at the plate with a solo home run, while Fridley belted a two-run homer.

• Wise tallied two RBI in the victory and Savage also drove in a run in the first game of the day.

• The Eagles pitching staff combined for eight strikeouts as Martin and Swift each punched out four batters. Martin picked up her first win of the season to send her win-loss record to 1-1.

Game Two
• The Eagles wasted no time in game two putting up a monstrous five runs in the top of the second. Jazmyne Smith got the party started with a solo home run to lead off the frame. Savage and Wise grabbed singles to put two runners on for the Eagles. Shifflett followed up with a two-run double bringing in both Savage and Wise.

• Fridley smashed another home run recording her second long-ball of the day, brought home Shifflett in the process to set the score at 5-0.

• Averi Phillips crossed the plate next for the Eagles on a throwing error from the shortstop. Hannah Mahan brought in Savage on an RBI single boosting the lead to 7-0.

• Mary Baldwin finally got on the board in the bottom of the third on a Thomas groundout that brought Fix across the plate. The game went scoreless until the top of the sixth when Kaelyn Ramsey singled to drive in Fridley for the Eagles final run of the day.

• The Fighting Squirrels plated two more runs in the bottom of the sixth as Crum drove in a run and Hadley May scored on a sacrifice fly from Reagan Frazier.

GAME STATS
• Five Eagles recorded a multi-hit game, including Fridley who went 4-for-5 at the plate with home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Shifflett recorded two RBI and went 3-for-5 at the dish.

• Ramsey went 1-for-1 in the second half of the twinbill on a pinch-hit RBI base hit.

• Smith belted a homer and added a pair of RBI in the victory.

• The Eagles pitching staff saw four pitchers enter the circle on the day combining for eight strikeouts. Erica Nelson went 3.0 innings, while Mackenzie Cauthorn tossed 2.0 innings and struck out five. Savannah Painter and Swift each threw 1.0 scoreless inning in relief.

UP NEXT
The Eagles continue their road stretch on Saturday in Ferrum, Virginia to take on the Panthers in a doubleheader beginning at 1 pm.
