TROY, Ala. (JMU Athletics) – Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning after a three-hour rain delay, a bases-loaded walk-off wild pitch ended James Madison softball’s season, as Coastal Carolina claimed the SBC Softball Championship with a 3-2 win against the Dukes on Saturday evening at the Troy Softball Complex.

Payton List swung at the first pitch she saw to connect on her first-career triple to right field, and Kylee Gleason drove her in on an RBI groundout to give JMU (28-26) an early 1-0 lead.

Kirsten Fleet kept Coastal Carolina (41-17) off the board for 4.1 innings, until McKennah Metzger hit a no-doubter over the left field fence with a runner on to give the Chanticleers a 2-1 lead.

Through five innings, the sophomore tallied a strikeout while giving up two runs on five hits and walking one.

Cali Legzdin tied things up at two in the sixth on her 11th double of the season to left center. Legzdin finished 1-for-3 with her 31st RBI of the season, leading the team in doubles.

Including her triple, List went 2-for-4 for her 19th multi-hit game of the season. She also went the final two innings in the circle, allowing a run on three hits.

Jasmine Hall and Gleason were responsible for the other two hits for the Dukes, as Hall finished her career with 160 hits.

SBC Softball Championship’s Most Outstanding Player, Nicolette Picone, earned her 28th victory in the circle, going the distance for her 25th complete game of the season. She mustered up just two runs on five hits, while walking two and stranding three.

Kierstin Roose paced the Chanticleer offense with two doubles and a run scored.
