The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office has regained its status as an accredited agency.
The announcement came during last night’s Board of Supervisors meeting in Verona. Todd Clingenpeel with the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services was on hand to present the department with its accreditation award.
The sheriff’s office was accredited prior to 2015, when an investigation into thousands of missing dollars from an evidence room under then-sheriff Randy Fisher caused the agency to lose that status. They re-applied in 2019, but were denied due to a single piece of missing evidence.
In a release, Sheriff Donald Smith thanked hard work, professionalism and dedication for adding to the department’s legitimacy.
