PHILADELPHIA (JMU Athletics) – James Madison Head Field Hockey Coach Christy Morgan is set to be inducted into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame, as announced by the organization.
The 2025 Induction Ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Live! Casino & Hotel Event Center in South Philadelphia. The public is invited to join the celebration of these remarkable individuals and teams.
Coach Morgan joins a class that includes Maryland Coach Gary Williams, Eagles legend Clyde Simmons, Flyers all-time great Paul Holmgren, Heisman Trophy Winner Mike Rozier and Eagles owner Jeffery Lurie.
A native of Norristown, Pa. native, Morgan captured three national championships as a player at Old Dominion (1982-84) before leading James Madison to the school’s first NCAA title as a head coach in 1994.
The former three-time All-American (1982-84) was named the Honda Broderick Award winner all three seasons, and in all four of her college seasons, she was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team. Morgan was on the US National team from 1982-90, playing in the 1983 and 1986 World Cup Tournaments and the 1988 Seoul Olympics, while serving as an alternate at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
Across her time with the Dukes (1991-99, 2014-Pres.), Morgan has accumulated a record of 250-164-2 (.603). She was named the NCAA South Region Coach of the Year and CAA Coach of the Year in 1993, and she was an assistant coach with the U.S. U-21 Team in 1995 and 1996. Her players won All-America honors 19 times, and midfielder Carole Thate was the 1996 winner of the Honda Award for the NCAA’s top field hockey player.
Morgan is also a member of the Old Dominion Sports Hall of Fame (1990), USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame (2004), JMU Athletics Hall of Fame (2004) and the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Hall of Fame (2023).
