BOSTON (JMU Athletics) – James Madison guard Mark Freeman was named a finalist for the 2024-25 Riley Wallace Award – given to the most impactful transfer in Division I college basketball – CollegeInsider.com announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Freeman is one of 30 players in the country named a finalist and the only representative in the Sun Belt Conference. The native of Memphis, Tenn., averaged 15.8 points and 3.1 assists per game and was named First Team All-Sun Belt and the Newcomer of the Year after transferring from Morehead State.

Along with his accolades from the conference, Freeman led JMU with 24 games in double figures, including nine with 20-plus and three 30-point performances. He is one of three JMU players since 2004 to record three 30-point games in the same season, joining Denzel Bowles (2009-10) and Stuckey Mosley (2017-18).

The recipients of the Riley Wallace Award are determined by a 10-member voting committee, which consists of current and former head coaches, as well as two senior staff members of collegeinsider.com.

The 2025 award will be announced in San Antonio, TX, the site of the men’s Division I Basketball Championship.
