HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Harrisonburg City School Board continues to work on a plan to move a number of students to different elementary schools as a solution to ease overcrowding.
However, several parents voiced their concerns over the plan during the public comment period of Tuesday night’s meeting.
One of those was Allison Garcia, who is a parent to a student who attends Waterman Elementary School.
She told the school board that she bought her home in 2008 because it was walkable to a school.
“It is just .8 miles from my house to Waterman,” Garcia explained. “It is three miles to Bluestone so that is not walkable.”
Superintendent Dr. Michael Richards had stated previously that he understands the challenges families face when changing schools since that happened to his own children when he was in Loudoun County.
