A new three-year plan from the governor calls for 230-million dollars in funding for upgrades to Virginia’s mental health system. The proposed Right Help, Right Now initiative includes expanding mental health programs in schools and creating more than 30 mobile crisis centers.
Bruce Cruser, with Virginia’s chapter of Mental Health America, says this is a good start. But according to Cruser, the plan leaves out a critical component of local mental health care.
The state’s Community Services Boards are regional offices that provide community-based support for people with behavioral health issues and developmental disabilities.
