BRIDGEWATER, Va. (BC Athletics) – Aaron Oates grabbed his 500th career rebound as his double-double led the Bridgewater College men’s basketball team past Greensboro on Sunday evening.
Final Score: Bridgewater 56, Greensboro 44
Records: Bridgewater 3-2; Greensboro 0-5
How It Happened
• Bridgewater opened the game on a 5-0 run as Taylor Fincham and Aaron Oates put BC ahead. Greensboro struck back with a three-pointer to get on the board and went on a scoring spell of their own as an 8-2 stretch put the Pride in front 8-7. The two sides traded the lead before a pair of long-range makes from Joseph Crenshaw and Will Vetter gave BC a 15-10 edge eight minutes in.
• Greensboro took the led back with six-unanswered points, but a 6-2 BC run capped off by a Mason Ramey score made it a 21-18 Eagles edge. The two teams traded scores and stayed within striking distance as a bucket in the final 90 seconds by the Pride made it a 26-24 Bridgewater lead at the half.
• Jordan Cooper got the Eagles on the board to start the second half, but a 6-0 GC run gave the Pride a 30-28 advantage three minutes into the second stanza. An Oates longball gave BC the lead back, but a three-pointer from Greensboro put the Pride back ahead. The two teams traded buckets and the lead as an Isaiah Pruett bucket gave Greensboro a lead at 38-36 with 12:27 to play.
• After Pruett’s bucket, the game turned on its head. Maleek Richardson picked off a pass and found Oates in transition to tie the contest and it was on from there as Greensboro was held without a field goal for the next 9:32 and BC embarked on a 20-6 run until Pruett finally took the lid off the rim. The Eagles forced six turnovers during the time span and were led by eight points from Cooper during the span as Greensboro’s make came with 2:10 to go and was the final points in the entire contest.
Match Notes
• Oates becomes the second player to cross the 500-rebound mark in as many seasons for the Eagles and did so in style with 18 points and 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the year.
• Cooper tossed in 16 points to go along with three assists and three steals, while Oates and Crenshaw each blocked a pair of shots.
• Pruett led the Pride logging all but two minutes for Jim Boone’s crew on the way to 14 points and three assists.
• BC was out-rebounded slightly by a 36-35 margin, but a 28-22 edge on points in the paint and a 30.4% clip from long range tilted the game in the Eagles favor.
