NEW ORLEANS (JMU Athletics) – A pair of James Madison football standouts were recognized by the Sun Belt Conference, as linebacker Jacob Dobbs was voted Defensive Player of the Week, while wide receiver Cam Ross was named Special Teams Player of the Week.

It’s the seventh weekly honor for Dobbs, who was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week six times while at Holy Cross, and Ross took home weekly accolades for the first time in his career.

Dobbs turned in his second straight double-digit tackle performance in JMU’s 32-15 victory against Southern Miss, finishing with a game-high 10 tackles with a season-best 2.0 sacks in three quarters of work. He was part of a defensive unit that turned in season bests of 11.0 tackles for loss and 9.0 sacks.

Since starting Sun Belt play, Dobbs leads all players with 10.8 tackles per conference game and is third overall on the season with 9.1 per outing in any game.

Ross produced his second career multi-touchdown game in the win over USM, including one on arguably the biggest play of the game, as he returned the opening kickoff of the second half for a touchdown. It was his first career kick return for a score and his 94-yarder was tied for the 10th-longest kick return in school history.

Additionally, Ross made a game-best five receptions for 39 yards with a fourth-quarter touchdown reception, which extended JMU’s lead to 17 points. He finished with 137 all-purpose yards, one of three players on the day to do go over 100.

JMU has now won five Sun Belt weekly honors in 2024, as Alonza Barnett III was back-to-back Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 23 and 30, and Terrence Spence was Special Teams Player of the Week on Sept. 23.
