ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Governor Glenn Youngkin has declared a state of emergency for the Commonwealth in anticipation of impacts from Hurricane Helene later this week.

While the current track takes the center of the storm west of Virginia, the National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center forecasts indicate that the western portions of the state could experience significant rainfall and flooding Friday into Saturday.

A state of emergency allows the Commonwealth to mobilize resources and equipment needed for preparedness, response, and recovery efforts.

Virginians can also take several steps to be ready including making a plan for getting to a safe place, preparing an emergency kit, and staying informed.
