James “Jim” W. Spitzer, 79, of Harrisonburg, VA, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, September 6, 2024. Jim was born on August 19, 1945, the beloved son of Ida Florence Norford Spitzer and Charles Lee Spitzer of New Market, VA.
Jim spent his career as a skilled printer, working at Henkle Press, Good Printers, Banta, and most recently, owning and operating his own business, Printing Services. In addition to his professional life, Jim was a passionate car enthusiast. He loved attending car shows and had a deep appreciation for collecting, repairing, and restoring antique cars, muscle cars, and street rods. If it had “wheels and exhaust,” Jim was in his element.
Beyond his love for cars, Jim enjoyed traveling, collecting movies, listening to 1950s music, and faithfully watching Jeopardy. He had an unwavering determination, especially in the past decade as he faced medical challenges. Despite his diagnosis, Jim surpassed his doctors’ expectations, extending his time with loved ones by seven years through sheer perseverance and strength.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Janie Snider Spitzer, and his children, Jamie Spitzer, Justin Spitzer, Mike Spitzer, and Angie Orebaugh. He also leaves behind two cherished grandchildren, Austin and Kelsey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Carlton and Donnie, and his son, Joel Brandon Spitzer.
A private service will be held in Jim’s memory.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Sentara Hospice for their compassionate care and support during this time.
