HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – Harrisonburg City Public Schools will provide free meals to all students again this school year.
All schools in the division are participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) under the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. Students will receive breakfast and lunch daily at no cost.
“We know that in order for students to be successful at school, they need to have their basic needs met,” Heather Yutzy, Director of School Nutrition for HCPS, said in a news release. “We are so pleased to be able to provide a healthy breakfast and lunch for all students at no cost to families.”
The HCPS Nutrition Program provides meals at no cost to students during school breaks. In summer 2024, they served 8,166 breakfast meals and 15,541 lunches, including those distributed throughout Harrisonburg neighborhoods by the HCPS mobile cafe.
