Curtis Lee Long, 94, a resident of Rockingham, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2024 at Bridgewater Retirement Community.
Mr. Long was born on November 23, 1929 and was the son of the late Guy and Freda Myers Long. He graduated from Mt. Clinton High School in the class of 1947 and was a farmer and trucker. He was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon, and elder. Along with his devotion to the church, he enjoyed singing in the church choir, as well as with the Rockingham Male Chorus.
On October 24, 1953 he married Colleen Reed Long who passed away on October 27, 2020.
Surviving is a son-in-law, Jim Messick; grandson, Travis Lee Messick and wife Jennifer; great- granddaughter, Hannah Lynn Messick; a niece, Debby Miller Rimel; and nephews, Darryl Miller and Gary Caracofe.
In addition to his wife, and parents, Mr. Long was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Long Messick who passed away on October 15, 2015; three sisters, Gladys Long Caracofe, Lois Long, Eleanor Long Miller
Gerald Harper will conduct a graveside service on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Woodbine Cemetery.
The casket will remain closed and there will be no visitation at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cooks Creek Presbyterian Church, 4222 Mt. Clinton Pike, Rockingham, VA 22802.
