ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – Today marks 28 years since hikers Julianna Williams and Laura Winans were last seen alive.

According to FBI documents, the duo went hiking with their dog in Shenandoah National Park on May 24, 1996. The dog was found wandering several days later, and following a search, authorities discovered the bodies of both women on June 1.

The FBI believes the Williams, 24, and Winans, 26, were murdered at a campsite near Skyland Resort. However, a suspect has never been arrested in the case.

The case remains open nearly three decades later.

Both the FBI and National Park Service ask anyone with information to contact authorities.
