HARRISONBURG VA: (Rocktown Now) – Hot and humid weather returns today, with a chance for severe thunderstorms and gusty winds. Low pressure over the Great Lakes combined with an associated cold front will south into the Shenandoah Valley this afternoon and evening. Winds will gust 30 to 40 mph at times. As the front continues south overnight, it will likely become part of a low over the southern United States. The chance for showers will continue into Friday morning.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for portions of the
central Shenandoah Valley and central Virginia through noon.
Additional scattered severe thunderstorms are possible this
afternoon and early evening with a primary threat of damaging wind
gusts.
A Wind Advisory remains in effect from 7 AM until 6 PM today for
the Northern Virginia Blue Ridge along with Hampshire and Hardy
Counties in West Virginia. Strong wind gusts remain possible
outside the advisory area as well, especially in the higher
elevations.
