
The Shenandoah Valley Produce Auction took time today (8/28/25) to say thank you to their customers, after a busy spring and summer season. Jeff Heatwole, manager of the auction, located west of Dayton, VA says the warm temperatures combined with abundant rainfall this summer, helped most crops. The auction caters to businesses, roadside stands, and restaurants, looking to buy produce and flowers in bulk.

The 14th annual Rockingham County Fair horse show is this Saturday and Sunday. Jane Cline, a volunteer, who helps organize the event, says the interest has grown over the years and this year’s show will run for two days. Featuring many breeds of horses, the show and weekend, features the horseshow, games, auctions and even a cake walk. All the money raised will help the horse show continue.

High school and college students in Shenandoah County have the opportunity to apply for $1000.00 scholarships, thanks to a number of local businesses and their donations. Carol Nazel with Virginia Cooperative Extension, explains how the funds became available and what students need to do the apply.

Cody Wilmer is the owner of The Long Acre Farm in Grottoes. A traditional farm with a unique history. Originally known as The Wunderlich Farm, dating back to around 1825, it is recognized as a Virginia Century Farm, indicating it has been actively farmed for over 100 years. The brick farmhouse, constructed just before the Civil War, was reportedly used as a makeshift hospital during the conflict, with soldiers and later visitors leaving their initials etched into the brick walls. While the farm originally spanned several hundred acres, it now covers 21 acres, primarily used for cattle.

Spring brings the return of the Harrisonburg Farmers Market’s Tuesday markets. Sarah Gorman with the market, talks about the different venders that will be part of the Tuesday market.

When the owners of, Willow, a Tennessee Walking horse, could no longer afford to keep her, they turned to Danelle Southerly, who owns a horse farm near Timberville. Danelle agreed to take her in and care for her for the rest of her life. Over the years, Danelle has adopted several more horses and created Willow Haven Farm Sanctuary. On WSVA’s Spotlight on Valley Agriculture, Danelle talks about the mission of her non-profit sanctuary.
